Thank you to our families, students, and staff for your patience and flexibility during this week’s severe winter weather. Keeping everyone safe is always our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding when school closures are necessary.
We want to reassure families that in Ohio, school districts are required to meet a certain number of instructional hours, not days. At this time, our district is not in danger of needing to make up any school days due to this week’s closures.
As we move through the rest of the winter season, please be sure to check your email regularly for district updates. In some situations, we may use a 2-hour delay schedule instead of closing, and advance communication will be shared when that option is being considered.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back as conditions improve. Stay safe and warm! ❄️

Sock Collection Drive Unites Maplewood and Grand Valley Communities
The Maplewood Girls Basketball Team and the Grand Valley Mustangs Girls Basketball Team recently came together for a friendly competition with a meaningful purpose through the “Sock It To ’Em” Challenge, a sock collection drive benefiting local organizations.
Throughout the drive, both school communities rallied behind their teams, donating socks in support of those in need. Maplewood collected 633 pairs of socks, while Grand Valley contributed 193 pairs, totaling 826 pairs of socks.
While Maplewood emerged as the top collector, organizers emphasized that the true success of the challenge was the generosity shown by both communities. Due to the large number of donations received, socks will be distributed to multiple organizations, including Rocket Fuel, The Mustang Stable at Grand Valley State University, and the Warren Family Mission.
The event showcased strong school spirit and a shared commitment to service. Organizers expressed appreciation for the students, families, and volunteers who contributed to the drive and helped ensure its success.
Upcoming Pink Out Games
The Maplewood Girls Basketball Team will host Pink Out Games on January 15 and January 22. Students and community members are encouraged to wear pink to the games to help raise awareness for a special cause while showing support for the team.

🎅 Holiday Fun at Maplewood!
This week was filled with holiday cheer and collaboration! Students from Mrs. Toto’s class took a trip down the hall to visit our first graders in Mrs. Stuart’s and Mrs. Giesy’s classrooms. 🎄
The students gathered for a festive reading of Santa's Stuck, which sparked plenty of laughs and creative ideas. After the story, the students teamed up to:
Write their very own original Santa stories. 📝
Create festive holiday art projects. 🎨
It was wonderful to see our older and younger students working together and sharing the holiday spirit.
